The first radio broadcast of a hockey game in Britain was on Monday the 18th January 1932 from Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.  The game was between England and Canada. The Ottawas, as they were called, were not the Canadian national team, they were an all-star outfit, and included Lou Bates who joined Wembley Lions in their inaugural year. The Ottawas won 7-0 (0-2, 0-3, 0-2).  The Skating Times noted " ..one of the fastest games ever seen at Grosvenor House, so fast indeed that on several occasions I believe, the wireless commentator who was broadcasting a running commentary on the match, was baffled for words."

The first NHL game to be broadcast on CBC radio was Detroit Red Wings against Toronto Maple Leafs.

The world's first live TV transmission of ice hockey took place way back in 1938. It was on the 29th October from Harringay Arena in London. The second and third periods of Harringay Racers 7-3 Streatham in the National Tournament were transmitted by the BBC via their studios at Alexandra Palace - where the world's first regular high definition TV channel commenced two years earlier.

There is a claim that the first match was played in 1885, in St Moritz, but no contemporary source/reference has ever been listed or published, whereas Patton had access to the Varsity IHC's minute books.)

... Vulcanized Rubber Puck
Vulcanized rubber was invented by Goodyear in 1839 but was not used for puck construction until the 1880s. The first one known to be used was in Kingston, Ontario as teams from the Royal Military College and Queen's University took up the game in 1886. In the same year, an official ruling was adopted by the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada designating the vulcanized disc as the "official" puck of the association.
