The top 12 men's
teams and the top eight women's teams will be playing for gold,
silver and bronze in Turin during February. The official Torino
2006 web site is now up and running and you can check out the IIHF
site which also gives details of the tournaments.
Last time out in 2002, it was Canada that won in both competitions
- can they repeat the feat?
The Canadian men's squad is 100% NHL and includes one Duck, two Flames, two
Avs, a pair of Blue Jackets, one Star, one Red Wing, two Oilers, a Panther, a Devil, two
Sens, a Flyer, a Coyote, three Bolts, two Canucks but no Leafs or
Canadiens.
There are 13 players scheduled to compete in their fourth Olympics
- Domink Hasek & Robert Lang (Czech Republic), Teppo Numminen, Teemu Selänne & Sami Kapanen (Finland),
Stefan Ustorf & Jan Benda (Germany), Lucio Topatigh (Italy), Darius Kasparaitis & Alexei Zhamnov (Russia), Jörgen Jönsson
(Sweden) and Chris Chelios & Keith Tkachuk (USA).
