Crowds Victor
Udintsev, one of our Russian consultants, now watches much of his hockey
in Cologne. He reports a hockey boom in Germany and has compiled these
interesting facts on DEL attendances during the 2002-03 season.
After the 364 regular season games, the average attendance was 5,478
spectators per game. The previous record has been set in 1987-88 with 5,420.
Compared to the 2001-02 season figure of 4,636 there was an 18% increase.
The total for 2002-03 was 1,993,856.

Deceptions
& Doublecross
We
mentioned this book briefly in our November 2002 feature and
have now had a chance to read the book.
The full title is
Deceptions and Doublecross : How the NHL Conquered
Hockey. Written by Morey Holzman and
Joseph Nieforth. Published by Dundurn Press in October 2002. This book tells the true story behind the founding of the National Hockey League, and the battles between Toronto owner
Eddie Livingstone and NHL President
Frank Calder. It's well researched
and a fascinating read.
