Editorial 2 We are now in our fourth year and the A to Z Encyclopaedia of Ice Hockey has changed and expanded considerably from how it first appeared on its Internet launch back in 1998. So our claim that we would "always be a work in progress - constantly updated and expanded" is as true today as it was then. The A to Z is an information source and historical reference archive, we do not try to bring you the latest news and breaking stories - although we do try to be as up-to-date as possible, so one of the changes we introduced was the Quick Web Links panel, on our opening screen, to give A to Z visitors easy access to League, News & Statistic sites in Europe and North America. These sites do a great job of covering the news and we do not have the resources or inclination to try and compete on the news front. One of the things we have been extremely pleased about is the number of visitors to our site who have prompted us to include new entries by using the Add an Entry form. Those who did not want to remain anonymous are listed on our Credits page together with the team of enthusiasts from around the world who act as our Consultants. It was four years ago that Stewart penned the first Editorial, which is still valid today and can be seen below. I'll echo Stewart's sign-off by saying - enjoy your visit, add us to your favourites, tell all your hockey friends about us and come back often. Phil Stamp December 2000 |

Editorial I had this idea for an encyclopaedia of Ice Hockey safely tucked away in a bottom drawer. I knew that if I started, it would be like the Forth Bridge - a job too far. I have been involved with hockey for well over thirty years and as Editor of The Ice Hockey Annual for the last twenty-five of those years, I know how easy it is to use up all of your available free time on the sport you love, so I kept the bottom drawer closed and locked. I made the mistake of mentioning the bottom drawer to Phil Stamp - and here we are, embarked on a journey of this lifetime and probably the next! We are trying to keep file sizes and download times as small/short as possible and will only be including thumbnail images within the text. When links to web sites are listed, they will be shown as [web site]. All other links will be internal to the encyclopaedia. We would like to encourage visitors to contribute to the mammoth task of compiling the most comprehensive encyclopaedia on ice hockey - so if you spot an omission or have a suggestion, go to the Add an Entry page and send us the details. If you are involved in a company that might like to advertise in the encyclopaedia please go to the Advertise page. A percentage of all income from this site will be donated to the Ice Hockey Players' Benevolent Fund. Enjoy your visit, add us to your favourites and come again soon. Stewart Roberts December 1997 |
